Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty affirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with African countries affected by Ebola outbreaks during his meeting on Monday with Ama Amoah, African Union Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development.
Abdelatty reviewed the medical and pharmaceutical assistance Egypt has provided to affected countries in support of efforts to combat the virus and contain its spread.
Abdelatty stressed the importance Egypt attaches to the health sector as a key pillar for achieving sustainable development in Africa.
He affirmed Egypt’s support for the African Union’s health institutions, enabling them to fulfill their role in responding to health emergencies and strengthening the continent’s readiness to confront epidemics and cross-border health challenges.
The minister also affirmed Egypt’s readiness to share its expertise and extensive experience in the health and pharmaceutical sectors, cooperate with the African Union Commission on capacity-building programs, and make available Egyptian expertise and advanced infrastructure in the pharmaceutical and vaccine industries.
He also highlighted the successful health initiatives launched by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, particularly the “100 Million Healthy Lives” initiative, which has contributed to strengthening health security in the continent.
In a related context, Abdelatty affirmed Egypt’s commitment to providing the necessary resources to ensure the successful organization of the 14th African Games, which Egypt is scheduled to host in 2027.
He said the event reflects Egypt’s commitment to joint African action and highlights the continent’s youth potential and promising capabilities.
He stressed Egypt’s full support for all efforts aimed at ensuring the success of this major continental event and affirmed its readiness to coordinate closely with the African Union Commission to ensure it is held in a manner befitting Africa and its peoples while strengthening the values of solidarity and cooperation among the continent’s youth.
