CAIRO, June 22 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty stressed during a meeting on Monday with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein that Iraq’s stability represents a fundamental pillar of Arab national security.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the resumed 165th ordinary session of the Council of the Arab League, held in Amman, Jordan, and addressed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and exchange views on current regional developments.
Abdelatty praised the deep-rooted fraternal and historic ties between Egypt and Iraq, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to further enhancing bilateral cooperation across various fields in a way that serves the common interests of the two brotherly peoples.
He underscored the importance of the trilateral cooperation mechanism among Egypt, Jordan and Iraq as a model for regional integration, highlighting the opportunities it offers to leverage the human and economic resources of the three countries and promote cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The minister reiterated Egypt’s firm support for Iraq’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its rejection of any foreign interference in Iraq’s internal affairs. He also affirmed Egypt’s support for Iraqi state institutions in addressing political, economic and security challenges.
The two ministers exchanged views on the latest regional developments, particularly the course of US-Iran negotiations following the signing of a memorandum of understanding.
Abdelatty stressed the importance of building on the progress achieved in that track in a way that helps reduce regional tensions and supports efforts aimed at consolidating security and stability across the region. (MENA)
