FM: No conditions on European aid to Egypt

European states have not set conditions for supporting Egypt's economy, Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil al-Araby said on Monday.

Following a meeting with his Spanish counterpart, Trinidad Jimenez, al-Araby reported that Jimenez had discussed international affairs and regional problems in a meeting with a number of Egyptian officials.

The Spanish minister said her country is anxious to improve ties with Egypt either on a bilateral or EU level.

Jimenez explained that Spain is seeking strategic relations with Egypt as well as a means to encourage joint investments and the Union for the Mediterranean, which Egypt co-chairs.

She stressed Europe's support for Egypt in light of the recent changes in the Arab region, adding that the EU is seeking a strategic partnership that can yield positive results on the economic level.

Jimenez continued that Spain desires to offer its best for Egypt in different fields, especially the economy, through the activation of investments and joint projects in several sectors such as tourism.
