FM, Turkmen counterpart discuss boosting bilateral cooperation

CAIRO, Nov 14 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty received a phone call on Friday from Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov to discuss enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

The two officials discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between Egypt and Turkmenistan across various political, economic, and cultural domains, with a focus on advancing shared interests.

During the call, Abdelatty stressed the importance of building on the outcomes of the second session of the Joint Egyptian-Turkmenistan Commission for Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation.

He underlined the need to benefit from existing opportunities in both countries to boost collaboration in investment, trade, and other priority sectors, with the aim of increasing the volume of trade between Egypt and Turkmenistan.

Abdelatty also highlighted the significance of strengthening communication between the business communities of both nations.

He underlined exploring opportunities for joint manufacturing projects and capitalizing on the promising investment opportunities in Egypt, particularly in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, which would facilitate Turkmen products’ access to Arab, African, and European markets.

In his remarks, Abdelatty outlined key sectors in the Egyptian economy that offer potential for foreign investment, including joint manufacturing, energy, infrastructure, mining, and pharmaceuticals.

The two ministers also discussed regional and international issues of mutual concern.

Abdelatty stressed the importance of continued coordination between Egypt and Turkmenistan, particularly in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

He also acknowledged the crucial role of Al-Azhar University in promoting moderate Islamic values.

The conversation further touched on developments in the Middle East, with Abdelatty outlining Egypt’s efforts to support peace, security, and stability in the region.

He highlighted Egypt’s role in de-escalating tensions and its ongoing initiatives to solidify the Sharm El-Sheikh peace agreement.

He also spoke about preparations for the Cairo Conference on Early Recovery, Reconstruction, and Development in Gaza, which will see broad regional and international participation, aiming to support the rebuilding and stabilization of Gaza.

For his part, Meredov expressed his admiration for the leadership of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his role in steering the region through difficult and exceptional circumstances.

He requested that his greetings be conveyed to President Sisi.

Meredov also praised Egypt’s role in promoting security and stability across the region and reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral relations in political, economic, and trade sectors in the near future. (MENA)
