FMs of Egypt, Australia discuss developments in Gaza on phone

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a phone call from his Australian counterpart Penny Wong Monday in which they discussed the latest developments concerning the war in Gaza.
Shoukry posted Wong on the outcome of Egyptian negotiations with world powers to contain the crisis, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.
He also condoled with the government of Australia for the death of an Australian relief worker of the World Central Kitchen (WCK) in an Israeli air strike in Gaza, Abu Zeid added.
Shoukry said Israel must comply with provisions of international law and international humanitarian law, stressing that Israeli attacks against Palestinian civilians must stop, the spokesman further said.
The top diplomats also discussed the deteriorating humanitarian and security conditions in Gaza, and attempts to guarantee that UN Security Council resolutions are implemented, he added.
They categorically rejected an Israeli military operation in Rafah, believing this would further foment the situation and lead to more casualties, according to the spokesman.
Shoukry and Wong agreed on the importance of continued coordination regarding stances toward regional and international crises of mutual concern, Abu Zeid said.
