Four killed, 3 injured as ferry capsizes in Nile river

A Nile ferryboat carrying two vehicles and 10 passengers capsized and sank in the Nile river on Thursday morning near the Egyptian village of Dimishly in the Kom Hamada area of the Beheira governorate, killing four and injuring three others.

Two bodies were recovered from the Nile waters, and authorities continue to search for two others that remain missing.

Dozens of residents gathered on both sides of al-Reyah al-Bahary water canal where the boat drowned. Women dressed in black cried as they watched the sunken ferryboat being hoisted from the river.

Governor of Beheira, Major General Hisham Amna, inspected the site of the accident and ordered emergency aid of LE10,000 to be disbursed to the families of each victim.

Beheira authorities issued a statement explaining that the initial cause of the accident was the slippage of one of the cars on board, which caused the ferryboat to become imbalanced, leading it to overturn and sink.

The Monufiya Health Directorate announced that two of the injured, Ahmed Mabrouk, 25, and Abdel Rahman Khedr, 21, both from Dimishly, have left the hospital after receiving medical services, while the third person injured in the accident was transferred to Kom Hamada Hospital in Beheira.
