French aircraft carrier enters Suez Canal on way back to Mediterranean

The French Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier entered the Suez Canal on Monday en route back to the Mediterranean from the Red Sea, after taking part in international operations against the Islamic State group in Iraq, according to sources from the Suez Canal Authority.

Five warships, including four French and one Spanish warship, accompanied the carrier, the sources added, and strict security measures were taken while the warships were passing through.

The carrier left the Toulon port in France in January carrying several French Rafale planes. It will leave the Suez Canal Tuesday evening.
