Hot weather to continue Sunday, getting cooler with Ramadan

Meteorologists are predicting very hot weather to continue across Egypt on Sunday, with a drop in temperatures on Monday coinciding with the start of Ramadan, the month of fasting for the majority Muslim population of the country.

The Egyptian Metrological Authority advised citizens to avoid sun exposure, particularly during Ramadan.

Very hot weather has prevailed over the past three days in Cairo, prompting the Meteorological Authority to issue warnings about sunstroke.

Citizens have benefitted from fresh juice shops to help them keep hydrated, while many have used umbrellas to keep the sun off whilst in the streets.

A drop in temperatures of between four and six degrees Celsius is forecast for the start of Ramadan on Monday, and will be felt in Cairo, the delta and northern areas of the country.

Maximum temperatures expected on Sunday in degrees Celsius are as follows:

Cairo: 39

Alexandria: 32

Luxor: 46

Aswan: 46
