Interior minister calls on supporters to take to streets on 25 January

Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim called on people to take down to streets on 25 January next to celebrate the anniversary of 25 January revolution and to confront the Muslim Brotherhood plans for a counter-revolution to 30 June revolution on that day, according to Ibrahim.

He added the ministry is currently reviewing the possibility of making 30 June the national police day instead of 25 January.

Ibrahim told the privately-owned al-Mehwar Channel Wednesday evening: “I reiterate my call to the Egyptian people: you have to take to the streets on 25 January next to celebrate because we’ve discovered Muslim Brotherhood plots aiming to wreak havoc on that day with the help of some sports groups and by inducing some anti-military and anti-Brotherhood political forces.”

“The Muslim Brotherhood and those forces plan to infiltrate Tahrir Square through multiple axes by mobilizing about 15,000 young people to stir chaos and revive a counter-revolution to 30 June.”

“This is their plot which we’ve detected some time ago and will confront with all our strength. And I think that everyone can see for themselves that the Muslim Brotherhood is now not the same as they were before the break up of Rabaa al-Adawiya and al-Nahda sit-ins,” Ibrahim added.

“Egypt is back to its owners and we will continue to move forward,” said Ibrahim, stressing that the security detects all schemes coming from the Muslim Brotherhood.

Ibrahim expressed happiness at the praise he received from voters on Tuesday and Wednesday while checking on the referendum process at several electoral committees.

“We are back to the people after 30 June revolution and I hope to preserve that feeling,” he said, thanking the police for securing the referendum.

Protesters have chosen 25 January 2011, which marked the start of an uprising that toppled autocrat President Hosni Mubarak, to stage protests against the brutality of police as it was named a national day for police.
