Jama’a al-Islamiyah describes movement by dismissed members as ‘comedy’

Jama’a al-Islamiyah said it had decided earlier not to speak about the Tamarod al-Jama’a al-Islamiyah movement, which it described as ‘comedy,’ played by two members who earlier quit the group branch in Damietta.

In a statement on Sunday, the group said its Shura Council has proved to be keen on the initiative to halt violence and that it issued previous statements reminding members with peaceful opposition principle and that whoever violates will be dismissed from the group.

The group added that its general assembly was formed upon integral elections.

The group also attacked what it described as, a ‘media of feloul,’ using the disparaging term to refer to old corrupt remnants of the Mubarak regime. “It’s strange that the remnants media welcomes holding a general assembly in Damietta to withdraw confidence from the current Shura Council, without knowing who convened or how many were they, their names, capacities or who elected them. It’s impossible that the general assembly be formed of two or three people dismissed from the group years ago.”

The statement concluded saying, “The group’s Shura Council does not care about such trivial issues. It will never be part of such polemics.”

It also added that whoever wants to return back to the group should hold a general assembly according to the official ways, which would decide the call for elections across governorates to form new general assembly and hence new Shura Council.
