The Ministry of Transport has ordered the introduction of a new air-conditioned subway wagon on Cairo’s first metro line (Helwan-Marg), starting Thursday morning.
The vehicle is the first of 22 wagons which will be introduced. The government contracted Korean Hyundai Rotem for the production of the cars in 2012, in a LE2.16 billion deal.
The Cairo metro, launched in 1989, and currently operating three lines, is expexted to include a fourth line in 2019.
