LE615 billion spent on doubling Egypt’s electricity production in past 5 years: Sisi

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi announced on Tuesday that more than LE615 billion has been spent on doubling the volume of electricity production in the past five years.

“The electricity produced over the past five years is equal to or greater than what has been produced in 50 or 60 years,” he said during the inauguration of a number of national projects in Damietta on Tuesday.

In order to best benefit from the production of electricity, wells, networks, transformers and control stations must be made available first, the President added.

Sisi also expressed his appreciation and respect towards the people of Damietta, praising their hard work and good reputation in the manufacture of furniture.

He added that he dreams Damietta would one day reach international fame through its furniture.

Sisi also discussed lake cleaning, especially of the lake of Manzala which is up to 250 thousand acres.

He said it was much larger in the past, yet encroachment and misuse have decreased the size of the lake. The government has worked on cleaning the lake over the past four or six years to prevent further deterioration.
