Mansoura criminal court to resume trials of protester-killing suspects

Mansoura Criminal Court is to resume, on Tuesday, trials of Interior Ministry officials accused of killing protesters during the January revolution.

The court had earlier listened to statements of Major General Mohamed Ghazy, former head of State Security Investigations Service in Daqahlia Governorate, and Major General Mostafa Baz, former public security chief. The court on Tuesday will also listen to statements of Brigadier General Mostafa Basha, former chief of Daqahlia’s investigations department and current chief of public security.

Abul Nassr Othman, first attorney general for Mansoura’s appeals prosecution, referred four Interior Ministry officials, who occupied security positions in Daqahlia during the revolution, to criminal court on charges of inciting killings of protesters.

Meanwhile, several political forces in Daqahlia called for staging protests before the court while the case is being reviewed, in solidarity with martyrs’ families and those injured during the revolution. They distributed leaflets among citizens urging them to take part.
