Mehleb to meet with Egyptian Solvadi manufacturers

Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb commissioned Health Minister Adel al-Adawy to prepare a meeting where a specific price will be agreed upon with the manufacturers of the Egyptian alternative to hepatitis C drug Solvadi.

Adawy submitted a report to Mehleb on Monday indicating he was negotiating a price reduction with the Egyptian pharmaceutical companies producing the drug. Eight companies have proposed to provide 25 percent of their production for free.

The Egyptian Center for the Right of Medication launched an initiative to eliminate viral hepatitis, in cooperation with the Pharmacists' Syndicate.

The head of the center, Mahmoud Fouad, said in a press conference to announce the initiative at the Journalists' Syndicate that the center has been operating on the initiative for three months to reduce the price of Solvadi, which hinders treatment for hepatitis C patients.
