Mehleb, Sultan Al-Qasimi inaugurate new National Archives building

Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb and Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates and current ruler of the Sharjah emirate, inaugurated on Sunday the new National Archives building in Fustat, in the presence of the Minister of Culture, Minister of Youth and Sports, Minister of Education, Minister of Population and a number of other public figures.
 
Minister of Culture Abdel Wahed al-Nabawy said the archives include 600 million documents related to the history of Egypt and the region, employing a team of researchers from 140 countries.
 
He said the building cost LE100 million, pointing out that it has a unique design, which won the International Archive Conference Award in Malaysia in 2008.
 
The building consists of five floors for the storage of documents, a center for the restoration and maintenance, a seminar hall, a training center and a museum.
