Mido denies signing contract to coach PSG youth team

Former Zamalek Club football star and former Wadi Degla football team coach Ahmed Hossam, known as Mido, denied in a tweet on Wednesday evening that he has already signed a contract to coach the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) youth team, as rumored in Egyptian media.

“I stress that [I] did not sign a coaching contract for the youth team of [PSG], as some Egyptian newspapers have reported,” Mido said in a tweet on his official account Twitter account.

“But negotiations are ongoing and the two parties have reached advanced stages. There might be good news soon, God willing,” he added.

Mido has confirmed that following his dismissal from his position as coach for Wadi Degla he intends to coach a European team.

Media reports revealed later that he plans to train the PSG youth team.

Mido told the ‘Kora Kol Yoam’ (Football Everyday) Egyptian TV show that he was given the opportunity to train a Saudi Arabian team recently, but he postponed it until he makes a decision on the PSG offer.

“I hope I will coach a strong team in Europe soon, although it’s difficult,” he told ‘Hasad al-Esbou’ (The Week’s Harvest) TV show on the DMC Sport channel, earlier in 2017.

“I can give up the training of Egypt’s national team or the Olympic team, or I can give up a big Egyptian football position, in return for working as a coach in the French league,” he added.

Mido started his coaching career with Zamalek after he announced his retirement as a footballer on June 10, 2013. He also coached both the Ismaili and Wadi Degla teams.

His first played in Zamalek club with the junior football team, but he soon moved to Gent Belgium team at the age of 16.

He then played for other teams including Tottenham Hotspur, Barnesley, Ajax, Marseille, and Roma before returning to Egypt.
