Military committee to inspect State Security documents

A committee from the armed forces has been formed to inspect various documents found in offices of the former State Security Investigations Service (SSIS), to ascertain whether they contain evidence implicating State Security officers in illegal acts.

Lawyer Mohamed Shawqi Fathi, who has been leading the investigation into the storming of State Security sites in several cities, called on citizens to hand over any documents belonging to the dissolved internal security agency. Such documents, many of which were taken when the State Security offices were stormed, should be delivered to his office at the Cairo Court of Appeal, he said.

Many citizens have already thousands of documents to the armed forces, while others were burned by State Security prior to its being dissolved. Many suspect that the destruction of these documents was an attempt to destroy evidence of wrong-doing.
