Military to implement safety procedures in coordination with Journalists Syndicate

Military spokesperson Ahmed Mohamed Ali posted on Facebook saying procedures will be taken by armed forces in coordination with Journalists Syndicate and media institutions in order to facilitate the movement and work of media professionals and journalists during curfew hours.

The statement comes after the killing of several foreign journalists during confrontations between security and protesters supporting ex-President Mohamed Morsy over the past few days, resulting in hundreds of deaths.

Head of state-owned Al-Ahram newspaper’s office in Beheira, Tamer abdel Raouf, was killed while accompanying his colleague from Gomhurriya newspaper, Hamid al-Barbary, who was injured, as a military checkpoint shot them on Monday during curfew hours.

Journalists Syndicate called for investigations into abdel Raouf’s murder and al-Barbary’s injury. Al-Barbary has been accused by the military of possessing a weapon in the car he had been riding in at the time of the incident.
