Millions celebrate Christmas at home due to bad weather

Millions of citizens could not leave their homes on the Christmas holiday due to bad weather and heavy rainfall in a number of governorates.
 
Meteorological Authority experts expect the cold weather to continue until next Sunday, with the possibility of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the next two days. They also expect floods in North and central Sinai.
 
Wahid Saudi, a spokesman for the Meteorological Authority, said that the significant drop in temperature and snow fall in Alexandria were normal and came as part of the cold wave which hits the country during winter. He explained that temperature will reach Thursday evening 6 Celsius degrees. It will gradually rise starting Sunday, he added.
 
Saudi stressed that the Meteorological Authority has warned ports managements about the turbulence in the sea navigation.
 
Two planes coming from the airports of Sohag and Sharm al-Sheikh landed safely in Borg al-Arab Airport in Alexandria after they were exposed to a thunderstorm.
 
Fishing traffic stopped completely in Manzala Lake in Beheira for the third consecutive day. Strong winds caused the collapse of a wall damaging three cars in Mansoura City.
 
In Monufiya, two were killed and one wounded as their car turned over on the road due to wind speed and bad weather.
 
Nader Nour Eddin, former adviser to the Minister of Supply expected vegetable and fruit prices to rise over the next few days. The most important crops which would be affected by the low temperature are tomatoes, green beans, peas, zucchini and spinach, he added.
 
A number of countries in the region suspended work at government institutions and appealed to citizens to stay in their homes due to a blizzard that is expected to continue for several days.
