Ministry of Tourism to run full inspections on Hurghada hotels, resorts

The Ministry of Tourism has decided to cooperate with global think tank Preverisk Services Group, which specializes in health and safety consultations, in order to implement full inspections on Hurghada’s hotels and other tourist governorates’ hotels.

The decision to cooperate on Wednesday is part of the ministry’s plan to restructure the hotel system and improve the quality of hotel facilities, in line with quality standards worldwide.

The ministry clarified that Preverisk Group would cooperate with inspectors of the Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Health, to check the hotels and resorts in Hurghada, and improve the performance of the hotels’ food and beverage staff.

The ministry’s decision followed the deaths of John Cooper, 69, and his wife Susan, 63, at the hotel Steigenberger Aqua Magic, in Hurghada last August.

The couple died from E coli bacteria, according to test results released by Egypt’s chief prosecutor in September.
