Mohamed Salah sets record after winning England’s Best Player Award

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has been named England’s Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) following his outstanding performances this season.

This season has seen the Egyptian star shine, having been one of the key factors in Liverpool’s Premier League title triumph.

Salah won the FWA Player of the Year award for the third time in his career, having previously won the award in 2018 and 2022.

This latest award sees Salah set an unprecedented record in England, receiving 90 percent of the total votes cast by 918 members in the 2025 Football Writers’ Association (FWA) award.

Salah thus became the player with the highest percent of votes this century in the award, which is given to the best player of the year.

Liverpool Football Club back in April announced the renewal of the contract of their Egyptian star, Mohamed Salah, keeping him with the team until the summer of 2027.

Salah’s previous contract was nearing its end at the conclusion of the current season, amidst reports of interest from major clubs in acquiring his services. However, recent negotiations saw significant progress, leading to a final agreement for the contract renewal.

In an exclusive statement to Liverpool’s website following the renewal, Salah said: “It’s been my best years in my career. Eight years now I’ve been here. Hopefully I’m going to stay for even longer. I’m happy. I’m enjoying my football. I’ve had my best years in my career here at the club.”
