Moroccan delegation in Cairo to cool off diplomatic heat

A Moroccan delegation arrived to Cairo Thursday for a two-day visit during which visitors are scheduled to meet with a number of senior officials in an effort to lay to rest a recent diplomatic row.

Sources present during the reception of the Moroccan officials said the meetings will address the recent diplomatic row that erupted after a report by TV Channel One, a Moroccan station, dubbed Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s rise to power as a “military coup” against “elected president Mohamed Morsy.”

Reports had attributed the sudden shift in Rabat's stance on the 2013 regime change in Cairo to the latter’s remarkable participation in a recent international seminar in Algeria supporting the Polisario Front, the indigenous, Algerian-backed group that has been in a conflict with Morocco for the independence of the Western Sahara region for more than 30 years.
