MP requests Ministry of Health take precautions against ‘Doomsday’ virus

MP Mahmoud Qassem, a member of the House of Representatives, submitted a question Hanafi al-Gebaly, Speaker of the House of Representatives, directed to Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population.

The question surrounded the measures taken by the government to conduct coronavirus tests for passengers coming from China.

It was related to the spread of the Doomsday coronavirus variant in China.

Qassem asked about whether all the risks raised from this virus were correct, and if all of the precautionary measures had been taken by the Ministry of Health and Population to combat the virus.

He called on the Ministry of Health to educate citizens about all information related to the new variant.

This ks especially prevalent since many countries, including the US, Japan, India, South Korea, Taiwan and Italy, have announced testing requirements for passengers from China.

Qassem stressed the need for the Ministry of Health and Population to disclose to all citizens the most important information related to this virus, as well as to take the correct precautions to deal with it.

The “Doomsday” coronavirus variant has sparked panic after it infected about 250 million people during the month of December in China.

37 million people in one day, according to the British Daily Mail.

Al-Masry Al-Youm published all the details related to the new variant of coronavirus, which was named Doomsday as a result of its rapid spread.

Symptoms of Doomsday Variant

The Doomsday variant is one of the current coronavirus mutants in China.

However its symptoms are less severe and it has  less of an impact on the respiratory system but its danger lies in the speed of its spread amongst people.

The Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention believes that 18 percent of the population has been infected with the Doomsday variant.

The Daily Mail stated that the hospitals were overcrowded and morgue were at brink levels.

This has prompted hospitals in China to provide care for the infected on the streets and in front of hospitals.

The reason for this is that they were unable to accommodate the large numbers of patients.

The newspaper added that nearly a million people are expected to die in China due to the Doomsday variant in the coming months.

Several reasons are believed behind the causes of the spread of the new variant in China.

Most importantly low immunity, reduced precautionary measures for coronavirus, and reduced vaccination rates.

Doomsday is a new variant of the coronavirus which broke out in Wuhan, China, in late 2019, and led to worldwide closures later to curb its spread.

Director General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has expressed his deep concern about the unprecedented wave of coronavirus infections in China.

He has been asking for detailed information on the seriousness of the situation.

“In order to make a comprehensive risk assessment of the situation on the ground, WHO needs more detailed information on disease severity, hospital admissions and requirements for ICU support,” Ghebreyesus stressed, in his weekly press conference.
