MP submits parliamentary question to minister over sale of state-owned hotels

A member of the House of Representatives in Egypt Mahmoud Qassem presented an urgent question to the Minister of Public Business Sector, Hesham Tawfik during a plenary session on Sunday, regarding the announcement of the sale of 30 percent of state-owned hotels.

“From time to time, the Minister of the Public Business Sector comes out to announce liquidating one of the state companies, as if he is taking us back to the era of privatization and selling state property,” Qassem said.

He added that the minister had liquidated some cement, fertilizers, iron and steel companies.

“Are these hotels being sold make profits or loses based on their budgets?” Qassem asked, while also stressing the need to discuss the impact of sales on workers.
