Muslim Brotherhood to field 132 candidates in parliamentary races

The Muslim Brotherhood (MB) opposition group plans to field a total of 132 candidates in 28 November parliamentary elections, of whom 66 are already sitting members of parliament, leading MB member Saad al-Husseini said on Tuesday.

“We originally wanted to field 154 candidates to compete for 30 percent of the seats in the assembly,” al-Husseini said. “But 22 candidates have since withdrawn.”

A member of the group’s internal opposition front, meanwhile, has claimed that the candidates had pulled out because they supported calls to boycott elections.
