Muslim Brotherhood opens branch in Moqattam

Muslim Brotherhood General Guide Mohamed Badie on Saturday inaugurated a new branch for the group in the Moqattam neighborhood.

The inauguration was attended by thousands of group members, representatives of political parties and forces, leaders of international Islamic movements, public figures and presidential candidates, such as Amr Moussa, who was warmly welcomed, and Hamdin Sabbahy.

The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces and the Coptic Church did not send representatives to the inauguration. Also, presidential candidates Mohamed ElBaradei and Abdel Moneim Abul Fottouh did not attend.

“Our group advocates a civil state with a religious reference,” Badie said while cutting the ribbon. “And I call on all political forces to protect the revolution.”

Commenting on the absence of a representative of the military council, Guidance Bureau member Saad al-Katatny said, “We know the council is very busy these days.”

For his part, Moussa declined to reply to a question as to whether the group would support his campaign.
