National Association for Change suspends Tahrir sit-in

The National Association for Change (NAC) on Tuesday suspended the sit-in it has been staging for nearly two weeks in Tahrir Square, claiming it has achieved most of its objectives.

The pro-democracy association called on its members to return to the square on the tenth day of Ramadan (also 10 August), the anniversary of the October War according to the Islamic calendar, to hold an Islamic iftar (breakfast) and a Christian mass for what it hopes will be one million participants.

The NAC renewed its demand to stop referring civilians to military courts, and denounced the ruling military council for calling the April 6 Youth Movement “traitors.”

It also called for an independent investigation into the attacks on demonstrators in Abbasseya Square on Saturday, in which more than 300 people were injured.
