Nawal al-Degwi referred to forensic medicine in asset guardianship case

The New Cairo Family Court of Appeal ruled on Monday to refer Dr. Nawal al-Degwi to the Forensic Medicine Authority to prepare a report on her health status.

This decision comes in a lawsuit filed by one of her grandsons, who is seeking a guardianship order over her properties, alleging a deterioration in her health. During the previous session, the court heard arguments from the defense of both parties.

Dr. Mohamed Hamouda, the attorney representing Sherif El-Degwi, requested the retrieval of files from the murder case of Dr. Ahmed al-Degwi to attach them to the current lawsuit’s documents.

Conversely, the defense representing Dr. Nawal al-Degwi’s two granddaughters requested an extension to defer the court’s ruling until an official copy of the first-instance court’s judgment—which had dismissed the guardianship lawsuit—could be retrieved and submitted to the court panel.

The court of first instance had previously ruled to dismiss the case, prompting the grandson to appeal the verdict before the appellate court.
