New satellite TV channel approved

Media sources say a new satellite television station “al-Beit Beitak,” due to launch by the end of the year, has been approved.

Ahmed Ezz, National Democratic Party secretary-general for organizational affairs, will own a 50 percent share in the station's shares, along with Mahmoud Baraka’s company, Baraka Designs, and other shareholders.

Several more channels will be launched at a later date, according to the sources. The shareholders say the station's team will include fresh blood and produce "different" content.

Ezz and Baraka have reportedly met in person and agreed on the station’s general policy. Ezz assured station officials he will not intervene in content. “I hope the channel will be a new example of the good media content society needs,” said Ezz.
