Officials: Azhar University exams will not be postponed

Al-Azhar University President Osama al-Abed said that examinations “will not be postponed under any circumstances.”
 
Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper also quoted official sources at Al-Azhar University as saying that police arrested 129 pro-Muslim Brotherhood students during protests on Saturday and Sunday.
 
“There are nearly one thousand Azhar students currently in jail since the dispersal of the pro-Mohamed Morsy sit-ins last August,” sources told al-Sharq al-Awsat. “There are political detainees with pending cases and suspects who have not been charged.”
 
The sources added that the university has decided to hold exams for the jailed students, in coordination with security authorities, in a place belonging to Al-Azhar University in Nasr City.
 
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health said that the total number of people injured in MB demonstrations on Sunday in Cairo, Assiut and Sharqiya has reached 35.
 
Officials added that 29 patients were discharged after receiving treatment, while six others remain in local hospitals.
 
No deaths were reported.
