Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will meet Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal in Cairo this month, Abbas' political adviser Nemr Hammad told state-run news agency MENA.
The two leaders will meet on 24 November to discuss the Palestinian reconciliation pact, general issues, obstacles to achieving peace and uniting Palestinian positions in order to make decisions.
In May, Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas signed a reconciliation agreement in Cairo during an official celebration attended by Arab and Islamic countries' representatives. The agreement aimed to end divisions that had lasted for almost four years.
The agreement’s main terms stipulated forming a unity Palestinian government of independent figures who will prepare for elections and deal with local issues that resulted from the former division.
The pact also included the reconstruction of Gaza, ending the blockade imposed on it, and uniting the Palestinian Authority’s institutions in Gaza and the West Bank.
However, Fatah and Hamas have disagreed over how to implement the agreements despite holding several meetings about them. Fatah insists on nominating current Prime Minister Salam Fayyad to the next government, which Hamas refuses.
