Palestinian President backs Egyptian measures on borders

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has expressed support toward measures taken by Egypt to confront terrorism in Sinai.
 
"We stand beside Egypt, its leadership, its government and its people and we back all measures taken that aim to restore security and stability in Egypt," Abbas said in a statement on Saturday.
 
"These measures will certainly serve the interests of Egypt, the Palestinians and the Arabs."
 
Abbas also praised the courageous Egyptian stance against terrorism, expressing confidence that Egypt will face the hardships and continue its path of construction, stability and preserving the future of the country and the Arab nation as well.
 
Abbas called his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Saturday and expressed support from the Palestinian leadership and people toward Egypt’s president, government and people in all decisions and measures taken to fight terrorism, preserve security and stability of people and country.
 
Sisi declared on Saturday that several measures will be taken with Gaza borders to ‘eradicate terrorism’.
 
On Sunday, Azzam al-Ahmed, member of Fatah movement’s central committee, arrived on top of delegation at Cairo for a two-day visit.
 
Ahmed will meet with several Egyptian officials to discuss issues of joint interest and Palestinian negotiations with Israel. He will also deliver condolences by Abbas to Sisi over Sinai victims.
 
Palestinian Interior Ministry in Gaza said that southern borders with Egypt are controlled and that strict measures are taken, denying relations with local Egyptian incidents.
 
On Friday, deadly attack was carried out by terrorists in Sheikh Zuwaid city killing and injuring dozens of armed forces personnel.
