Palestinians, Syrians arrested for attempting to migrate to Italy

The West Alexandria Prosecution decided on Thursday to release 29 Palestinian and Syrian nationals who were trying to illegally migrate to Italy by sea.

Border guards arrested the illegal migrants at dawn on Thursday before boarding a boat whose captain managed to flee.

Prosecutors found that the suspects had entered Egypt via Cairo International Airport a month ago, and were offered to travel to Italy for LE20,000 each.

The migrants said they had left their countries due to political instability.

Prosecutors ordered their release, the arrest of the boat operators, and further investigation into the incident.

An estimated 60,000 Palstinians and 90,000 Syrians live in Egypt.
