Parliament squabbles continue

A group of parliamentarians from the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) clashed with independent MP Gamal Zahran on Wednesday, after the latter accused them of having double standards.

The session was discussing a complaint filed by MP Mustafa el-Sallab against Cairo Governor Abdel Azim Wazir ordering the demolition of part of his property, although the prime minister had overruled the order.

The MPs lashed out at Wazir for disrespecting the members of parliament and called for a fact-finding committee to look into the matter.

Meanwhile, Zahran criticized his colleagues for not reacting when a similar demolition order was issued against his brother’s property. Before he could finish his speech MPs assaulted him while he was standing at the podium.

Zahran requested that the offending MPs be referred to the disciplinary committee.
