People’s Assembly to investigate stalled Saudi investments

After meeting with Saudi businessmen Wednesday, the People’s Assembly plans to form a committee to investigate stalled Saudi investment projects in Egypt.

Saudi Arabia's Al Eqtisadiah newspaper reported that investors will submit files regarding their pending projects to the committee, which is expected to start its inquiry by the end of March.

The newspaper quoted Egyptian-Saudi Business Council Chairman Abdullah Dahlan as saying that the meeting tackled obstacles facing the largest Saudi projects, including retail chain Omar Effendi and two factories owned by Abdel Elah al-Kaaki. Problems with the private economy airlines owned by Nasser al-Tayyar were also discussed, as well as issues affecting the Savola Company and the real estate investment firm that owns the Grand Hyatt hotel.

Dahlan said that during the meeting, participants developed a plan for addressing these issues that is supported by People’s Assembly Speaker Saad al-Katatny.

The investigative committee will be led by the head of Parliament’s Industry and Energy Committee and the heads of the economic, housing and agriculture committees will also serve as members.
