Police officer sentenced to life in prison over sexual assault

The Giza Criminal Court sentenced police officer Khalid Abdel Rahman Mohamed from Imbaba Police Station to life in prison Sunday, for being found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in August 2014.
 
According to investigations, the defendant exploited the mental illness of the victim. During the course of the trial, a video was shown of the girl being taken out of custody and assaulted.
 
On August 27, Mohamed snuck into the women's holding cell, took the girl to an empty room at the station and assaulted her.
 
Other female detainees testified in favor of the victim and said they were witness to the incident through the window opening in the door of cell. The 16-year-old victim, who suffers from mental illness and hallucinations, also identified the defendant.
