Political groups seek to avert clashes during Friday demos

Political groups are holding talks ahead of demonstrations planned for Friday in an effort to avoid clashes between groups with conflicting aims and demands.

Some fear that Islamists might come to blows with supporters of the 25 January Revolution Youth Coalition as they take to the streets, with the coalition holding a protest for "Revolutionary Legitimacy" while Islamists demand "Identity and Stability".

“We’re trying to bring the Muslim Brothers, the Salafis, the Jama’a al-Islamiya and the Youth Coalition to the same table,” said Wasat Party Vice President Essam Sultan.

The Tagammu Party and the Wafd Party have also warned of clashes on Friday and called for joint efforts to prevent them.
