CAIRO, Feb 16 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty has delivered a message from President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to Kenyan President William Ruto, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to building on Ruto’s historic visit to Cairo in January 2025.
The message stressed Egypt’s keenness to elevate the strategic partnership between the two countries and deepen coordination on regional and international issues.
The message was conveyed during high-level ministerial consultations held on Monday in Nairobi, co-chaired by Abdelatty and Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sewilam, alongside Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and foreign minister Musalia Mudavadi and the country’s Minister of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Eric Murithi.
The talks focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
Both sides stressed the importance of enhancing integration among Nile Basin countries to achieve mutual benefits, as well as aligning positions on key regional and global developments.
Discussions covered the situation in the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, and the Great Lakes region, with particular attention to efforts to restore peace and stability in Somalia and Sudan.
The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and independence, in line with the Constitutive Act of the African Union and the UN Charter.
Egypt and Kenya agreed to intensify high-level visits and expand cooperation in defense, security, counterterrorism, pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, and integrated water resources management to support economic development and regional integration in line with Africa’s Agenda 2063 and the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
Both countries underscored that the Nile River represents a lasting bond among Nile Basin nations and stressed the need for joint action to protect and sustainably utilize this vital resource.
They agreed to maintain regular consultations on Nile Basin issues and to support inclusive dialogue within the Nile Basin Initiative framework to promote shared water security, socio-economic development, and environmental protection in accordance with international law. (MENA)
