Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi expressed his warm welcome to the world leaders participating in the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) opening ceremony on Saturday.
Speaking via his official Facebook page, President Sisi said: “From the good land of Egypt, the cradle of human civilization, I welcome our guests—the world’s leaders and great figures—to witness together the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum. This monument embraces the treasures of ancient Egyptian civilization while uniting the genius of the ancient Egyptian with the creativity of the contemporary Egyptian.”
The President added that the GEM, “Will contribute a new monument to the world of culture and arts, one that all those interested in civilization and knowledge will rally around, and one that all believers in the unity of humanity and the values of peace, love, and cooperation among peoples will take pride in.”
He concluded: “I wish all guests enjoyment during their time in Egypt, spanning the realms of the past and the present.”
The GEM is located just two kilometers from the Giza Pyramids and is designed to be the world’s largest museum dedicated to a single civilization.
Its construction began in 2002, driven by the need to better preserve and display Egypt’s vast collection of artifacts, particularly the complete treasure trove of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun.
The GEM utilizes modern architecture and state-of-the-art technology to offer a comprehensive, chronological journey through 7,000 years of Egyptian history, serving as a powerful symbol of national pride and a renewed commitment to promoting cultural heritage globally.
