The current religious discourse, whether Islamic or Christian, is intolerant and bigoted, said priest Rady Attalah Eskandar of Alexandria's Evangelical Church.
The educational system should be Egypt's main focus in the meantime, he added.
Eskandar stressed the existence of 3 million atheists in Egypt. He added Al-Azhar reports had mentioned that atheists in Egypt are 12 million. Eskandar attributed the increase in the number of atheists to the religious discourse and the preachers. One third of atheists in Egypt are Christians and two thirds are Muslim, he added.
