Protester accused of incitiment against military released pending appeal

Gaber al-Sayyed Gaber's appeal against his one-year prison sentence for distributing leaflets inciting people against Egypt's ruling military council was postponed to 29 February on Wednesday.

The Cairo court ordered Gaber's release pending the appeal, according to the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information.

Gaber was arrested by a group of supporters of former President Hosni Mubarak on 23 December at a protest in support of the military council in Abbasseya. He was handed to the police to be tried for possessing leaflets that “threaten public peace and security and intimidate citizens.”

On 26 December, the court ordered Gaber's detention, fined him LE200, and set his bail at LE1,000.
