Hundreds of protesters march from October Bridge and Qasr al-Nil Bridge to break through security cordons blocking entry to Tahrir Square.
Police fired tear gas to disperse them as they came off the bridge.
Earlier, thousands of central security forces blocked all roads leading to Tahrir Square, Cairo's busiest district.
