Romania backs Egypt’s UNSC bid

Romania has voiced support for Egypt’s quest to win a non-permanent membership at the United Nations Security Council for the 2016 session.

A statement released by Bucharest's embassy in Cairo said the country’s foreign ministry had included its support in a letter to its Egyptian counterpart.

Egypt said in April it won the backing of African, Latin American and Caribbean delegates to the United Nations.

Only five states have permanent memberships at the Security Council: The United States, Russia, China, France and Britain. They have the right to veto, and therefore halt, the implementation of UN resolutions.
