Run-off vote set for mainly NDP internal competition

The ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) secured the majority of seats in parliament in Sunday's poll, according to preliminary election results. A considerable number of NDP candidates will also compete against one another in the 5 December run-off vote.

Egyptian election stipulations require an outright majority for victory.

The Muslim Brotherhood–the biggest opposition group in the current parliament–failed to win a single seat outright, results reveal.

The Brotherhood's deputy supreme guide, Mahmoud Ezzat, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that 15 group members will vie for seats in the run-off vote.

Meanwhile, opposition parties, including the Brotherhood, accused the NDP and the state security apparatus of electoral fraud.
