Russia requests role for Russian security observers at Egyptian airports

Russian Deputy Transport Minister Valery Okulov said Russia has given Egypt a draft memorandum on the role of Russian experts in the inspection procedures at Egyptian airports.

Okulov said in a press statement Wednesday that the memo requests the participation of Russian specialists as observers in aviation security procedures at Egyptian airports.

According to Okulov, a meeting between Egyptian and Russian officials will be held in January after the Christmas vacation to agree on the request.

Okulov said he could not give a specific date for the resumption of flights to Egypt.

The Russian Press Agency Tass reported that representatives of the Russian aviation authorities held a meeting with Egyptian counterparts on December 23, where the latter showed them results of inspections at Egyptian airports.
