Sheikh Abboud el-Zomor, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1981 for his role in the assassination of Egypt’s late president Anwar el-Sadat, filed a report with the Attorney General on Tuesday to draw up his will when he became bedridden for several days after a hepatic coma.
Adel Moawwad, el-Zomor’s lawyer, who filed the report for el-Zomor, said that el-Zomor’s health is deteriorating badly and that he is suffering from a number of chronic diseases.
He added that el-Zomor felt that he is in the stages of dying and thus handed his will over to the Attorney General so it can be executed after his death. Moawwad pointed out that el-Zomor is not receiving any medical care and that all examinations that he has undergone have been of poor quality.
El-Zomor’s wife said her husband is suffering from chronic liver conditions, hypertension, erosion of the left knee, and enlargement of the heart muscle.
She added that her husband is patiently bearing the situation in the belief that what he is going through is a test from God. She wondered however why her husband was still in prison after he had renounced violence and the ideas he previously held.
