Security arrest suspect in North Sinai for arms, drug possession

Security authorities in North Sinai arrested a terrorist suspect who kept weapons and marijuana in his home, the state-run news agency MENA reported.

The news agency said the arrested suspect, 45, lives in the Nakhl area and kept unlicensed firearms and ammunition in his home and that others had visited for weapons training.

Asked why he had the seized weapons in his home, the suspect said he kept the arms for self-defense and was intending to plant the marijuana.

The prosecutor’s office was notified of the arrest.

Meanwhile, the German news agency DPA reported that unknown gunmen attacked a police checkpoint in the Zohour district of Sheikh Zuwayed, east of Arish.

DPA cited a senior security official as saying that the assailants fired bullets and RPGs at the checkpoint and that the army forces responded by firing back at them, without any injuries being reported.
