Security tightened at public zoos, aquariums

The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation tightened on Monday security measures around zoos and aquariums in Giza and other governorates during Easter celebrations, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and private security companies.

Giza Zoo had a high visitor turnout which caused overcrowding despite there being several ticket windows.

A meeting was held with a security company affiliated with the Central Department of Zoos to review the inspection procedures for visitors and other parks belonging to the administration, Mohamed Ragaei, head of the Central Department of Zoos, told Al-Masry Al-Youm.

Security forces were deployed in various areas around the Giza Zoo which attracts a large number of visitors during official holidays, said Ragaei.

It was decided during the meeting that controls would be put in place to ensure that no one could enter the park with explosive materials or other weapons that might threaten the public, he added.

He mentioned that the number of available fire engines were increased in preparation for any possible emergencies.
