Sinai chiefs to help identify Rafah attack gunmen

To identify six bodies handed over to security forces by the Israelis, who said they belonged the gunmen responsible for a Sunday evening raid, security forces will solicit the help of Sinai tribal chiefs.

Officials will also carry out DNA tests and review the dossiers for detainees who launched attacks in Sinai in the past to determine the identities of the assailants.

A team of medical examiners is expected to arrive at Arish Central Hospital to examine the six bodies.
Six of the dead bodies were burned and parts of them were torn apart after being hit by Israeli fighter jets.

Both Egyptian and Israeli officials blamed the attack on extremist groups in Sinai whose presence has strengthened after the 25 January revolution.

Meanwhile, Egyptian authorities are expected to begin demolishing underground tunnels across the Egyptian-Israeli border as soon as they receive orders to do so. The tunnels are used by individuals and for the transport of construction materials, and weapons. Authorities put the number of underground tunnels at the border at 350.
