Sisi appoints Hassan Abdullah as acting governor of CBE

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi issued a decree appointing Hassan Abdullah, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the United Company, as Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), succeeding Tariq Amer whose resignation was accepted on Wednesday.

Sisi appointed Amer as an advisor to the President of the Republic.

Hassan Abdullah is the President of the United Media Services company.

He was born in in 1960, and studied at the American University in Cairo and obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1982.

Abdullah began working in 1982 at the Arab African International Bank in Egypt, then moved in 1988 to the bank’s branch in New York, where he was appointed in 1994 as Assistant General Manager, then General Manager in 1999, then Vice President and Managing Director in 2000.

He assumed the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Union of Arab and French Banks (UBAF) in Hong Kong, and is member of the Board of Directors of the UBAF in Paris.

He is member of the Board of Directors of the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Emerging Markets Advisory Council (EMAC), the Central Bank of Egypt, Orascom Construction, Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Egypt, Endeavor Egypt, and Telecom Egypt.

He founded the “Wafaan Li Misr” (Loyalty to Egypt) institution.

He served as a faculty member at the American University in Cairo, and a member of the Dean’s Strategic Advisory Board at the AUC School of Business at the American University in Cairo.

He was a founding member of the Egyptian National Competitiveness Council, a founding member and president of the Small Business Investor Alliance (SBIA), and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Egyptian Banking Institute.

He obtained a Master’s in Business Administration in 1992 from the American University in Cairo, and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1982 from the same university, Egyptian Banking Institute,
